Let’s dive into some frequently asked questions about requesting a quote for custom springs from Apex.  Because after all, the process is easy, and we are here to walk with you the entire way.

What is the minimum information needed to quote a custom spring?

At minimum, provide enough information for our team to understand the spring’s general geometry, application, required performance, and quantity.

Do I need an engineering drawing to request a custom spring quote?

While a drawing or sample is helpful, no, it is not required.   Although, it is good to know that even an incomplete design can often be helpful.  Especially if you provide the available space, required force or torque, operating travel and application details.  So, while a detailed drawing can (at times) help expedite the process, Apex also provides engineering support!  So, just send us whatever you’ve got and we can dive in!

Can Apex help design my spring?

Yes. Apex provides in-house engineering!  Our team is highly experienced in designing springs. Out skills and services include spring load analysis, lifecycle testing, metallurgy recommendations, drawing creation and modification, tolerance and stack-up evaluation, design-for-manufacturing analysis, stress and failure analysis, and reverse engineering.

What types of custom springs does Apex manufacture?

Apex manufactures compression, extension and torsion springs as well as custom wire forms. Available spring materials include music wire, chrome silicon, stainless steel and pre-coated materials.

Can Apex make prototype springs?

Yes. Apex’s in-house prototype capabilities allow customers to test and evaluate designs before moving into full production.

What determines the price of a custom spring?

Custom spring pricing can be affected by may factors.  These factors include material, wire size, geometry, tolerances, production quantity, required secondary operations, inspection requirements, and overall manufacturability. Providing application requirements along with the drawing helps Apex evaluate not only whether the spring can be produced, but how it can be manufactured effectively.

What if I don’t know the correct material or tolerance?

That’s ok, we can help!  Tell us what the spring needs to accomplish and the environment in which it will operate and Apex’s engineering team can provide metallurgy recommendations.  We can also provide tolerance evaluation to help determine requirements appropriate for the application.

Can Apex quote from an existing spring sample?

Yes, we can.  Apex has reverse engineering capabilities. If you have an existing component but incomplete design documentation, contact our team to discuss the sample and the application requirements.

Ready to Request a Custom Spring Quote?

Whether you have a production-ready drawing, an existing spring that needs to be reverse engineered or an early-stage design that still needs engineering, Apex Spring & Stamping can help you move from concept toward production.

Tell us what you’re building, what the spring needs to do and what information you already have. We’ll help determine the next step.
